Lunar New Year Luncheon 2024
Happy Lunar New Year from the SCSC team!
This year SCSC hosted a grand Lunar New Year luncheon at Choi Food Event Centre, marking another memorable occasion for our special children and their families. Our event aimed to celebrate the collaborative efforts of our families and the strong relationships we have fostered with local government officials who continue to support the services provided by SCSC. We were privileged to welcome several distinguished guests, including Dai Le, MP for Fowler, Tri Vo, MP for Fairfield, and Benjamin Cai, Councillor of Strathfield, as well as many generous donors who sustain our nonprofit organisation.
The luncheon’s festive atmosphere was enhanced by the traditional lion dance performance, generously sponsored by Mr. Vincent Kong. The energetic and colourful lions, with their lively drumming, captivated the audience and set a joyful tone for the rest of the celebration. Our special children were especially enthusiastic about the photo opportunity!
Lion dance is a well-loved symbol of luck and prosperity, and its presence at the event reflected the community’s hope for a prosperous year ahead.
Adding to the cultural richness of the event, a group of our senior members, under the leadership of Jain Hui, performed a graceful and elegant traditional Chinese dance. Their performance, filled with intricate movements and vivid costumes, was a beautiful tribute to the cultural heritage that the SCSC seeks to preserve and promote. It was clear from our member’s participation that their effort was appreciated and admired.
Another highlight of the afternoon was the musical performance by our very own special children and former president Lee Hsiu Ling. Our singers serenaded the crowd with a selection of delightful songs, bringing vibrant energy to the crowd. Our performers brought joy and warmth to the hearts of all those in attendance, showcasing not only their talent but also their continued dedication to the centre.
As guests indulged in a sumptuous feast featuring a variety of traditional Chinese dishes, the combination of delicious food and entertainment created a perfect balance for a celebratory afternoon. Members and attendees were able to enjoy both the culinary delights, and the visual and auditory entertainment provided throughout the event.
The luncheon was more than just a celebration of the Lunar New Year—it was a testament to the spirit of community that the Special Children’s Service Center fosters. With the involvement of local leaders, cultural performances, and the dedication of the centre’s members and supporters, the event underscored the importance of coming together to celebrate tradition, culture, and the achievements of the centre. It was a day filled with joy, unity, and pride, as everyone in attendance reflected on the importance of supporting the centre’s mission in serving children with special needs and their families.
This successful Lunar New Year luncheon left a lasting impression on all who attended and set a high standard for future events at SCSC!
